House Concerts

Culture

In Basel

In the mezzanine of a neo-baroque house from 1904/05 we organize a series of house concerts in a room 3.50m high with excellent acoustics. Each season, at least four different programs of vocal and instrumental chamber music are offered in this intimate setting, performed by professional musicians of various nationalities.

All concerts are commented on by the artists, especially since lesser-known pieces or veritable excavations are often heard. The focus is on music from the 18th to the early 20th century, performed on instruments of the respective epoch(instruments), whereby we are always interested in the cultural environment of the composers and its mediation.

Since seats are limited and concerts are often overbooked, we recommend subscribing to the series. Of course, the subscriptions are transferable. We often have guests who are invited to us for a special occasion. It is also possible to book a whole program on another date as a private event. In any case, prior registration is requested.

Tickets & Subscriptions

Please note that your registration is binding. Booked seats that are not released for a compelling reason at least twenty-four hours prior to the event must be paid for.

A seat for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday at 3 p.m. costs Fr. 40.–

A subscription for all four Saturday concerts or the 3 p.m. concerts on Sundays costs Fr. 140.–

A seat for Sunday at 5 p.m. costs Fr. 50.– (incl. aperitif after the concert)

A subscription for all four Sunday concerts at 5 p.m. costs Fr. 180.–

Please refer to the annual program for the individual dates.

In 1904/05, three houses in neo-baroque style were built on the lower Burgunderstrasse in Basel by the architect Samuel Walti (1864-1938), which were included in the inventory of buildings worthy of protection in the summer of 2023. Since 1987 we have lived in one of these houses, which we have gently renovated over the years to preserve as much of the old fabric as possible. Thus, the old windows and the winter garden were reconstructed true to the original.

Since 2000, house concerts have been held regularly in the attic, which was expanded according to plans by Peter Fierz. After the installation of an elevator proved impossible, we remodeled again in 2021 and had the center wall removed on the first floor to make the music room accessible to the elderly or people with walking disabilities. Since the fall of 2021, the house concerts have been held there in a 3.5-meter-high room with excellent acoustics.

Voices about the house concerts

"We always look forward to the house concerts by and with Samuel Kopp in a very special way: beautiful music played by outstanding performers and accompanied by substantial explanations - and all this in a festive and at the same time familiar setting."

Agath and Fritz Rapp Social worker and a. Court president

" The wonderful concerts at Burgunderstrasse 6 always expand my musical horizons anew. The charisma of the historic building and its tasteful interior underline the effect of the concerts. Through them I have a low-threshold opportunity to participate in the cultural life of Basel. Thank you for these Sunday highlights."

Jacob Fischer School remedial teacher

"Good day Samuel, your concert yesterday was phenomenal! You played the Haydn so convincingly that one thought one was sitting in Esterházy's castle. The live music was very good."

Susi Labhart Former Church Councillor ERK BS

For Samuel Kopp

Game Sunday at five

Tone flowed from the roof sky Iridescent
Butterfly Drag To Earth Room Black Box

Silent thriving
Silent groaning, mute creaking of the stairs Quiet the runner, fine-aged the striding

Eavesdrop, true
Young breathes the breath of years In the skin house, in the cathedral

Memory
Interwoven the rolling play of many-stringed voices Color games sound, finger games sing

Fledglings weddings
In the Easter garden on bare branches
Silver sunlight glistens on the delicate stemmed signs

Playing strings will drive out winter Spring green
With hammer touch, with bow stroke

Lau breathe house organ pipes
The velvet oriole chirps yellow-lipped own melody Outdoors on treetops, for evening celebration, early morning

Gold sparks kiss the bed of leaves in the grove Spring light stimulated germination and striving Warmly nourish sound flames waiting souls
